The original author of the MAGPHYS code is visiting ICRAR next month and we’ll discuss the issues of porting it to ‘C’,

A GPU version was developed, but when I tested it against the CPU only version the numbers where out by as much as 5%.
Unfortunately we run this project on a shoe string budget and don't have the resources to develop it ourselves.
I have a student starting next year who will work with original developer of MAGPHYS (who now works in Australia) to produce a GPU version.

mah....

theSkyNet SourceFinder 2.0 (beta)
Coming soon to a BOINC manager near you!

Ryan (our intern) and Alex have been working really hard to bring SourceFinder up and running on BOINC. We expect we will be announcing its beta availability in the new year! We have all the data ready to go, and most of the BOINC infrastructure is coded and online, we're just finishing up the final touches with an assimilator (that puts the results you guys will send back to us into a database) and a few other checks and quality controls through the system.

Thank you so much for your patience with this one, Ryan was only with us for one day a week, and has now officially graduated and taken a job in industry so he won't be around much at all anymore! Congratulations from all of us at theSkyNet Ryan, and good luck in your new job.

Comparing galaxy morphology at high and low redshift
Hopefully everyone has been enjoying the latest set of galaxies. These objects are galaxy mergers identified by citizen scientist volunteers at galaxyzoo. We are going to be using them as part of an experiment contrasting different indicators of galaxy morphology at high and low redshift, so early and late epochs in the universe, respectively. A control sample of non-mergers is also being run at lower priority. In particular, working with my colleagues at JHU, we are measuring what is called non-parametric morphological indicators -- things like concentration, asymmetry, Gini coefficient, and many more -- both on the observed telescope images and on the physical parameter maps your CPUs are generating. This is normally done only on the observed images, and by working with derived physical quantities we hope to eliminate potential bias. Also, such measurements (for a complete set of non-parametric indicators) have never yet been compiled for the low redshift universe, though done frequently at high z. By working with the galaxies you are now processing we will establish a 'baseline' for galaxy morphology in the present day universe. Thanks!

:arg:

Succose novità dal progetto

I would like to announce that work on SourceFinder has come to the stage where it's ready to go into beta, so look out for a sourcefinder announcement in the new year!

Ne parlano solo da anni..... :ciapet:

Per quanto riguarda le gpu, invece:

In regards to the GPU app, there is one that has been developed, however we don't have enough data for people to compute. If we opened up the GPU app, all of POGS would be completed within the week

Troppa potenza a disposizione!!!! :ruota:

Sourcefinder Open Beta
Hello everyone!

I'm pleased to announce that the Sourcefinder Open Beta has officially launched.
Anyone interested in helping us develop our Sourcefinder app are invited to join the beta project at ec2-54-158-48-92.compute-1.amazonaws.com/duchamp/.

We're starting off by processing a block of 28GB of data just to test the system and ensure our back end processes are all operating correctly.

Once we've fixed any serious issues or errors, we'll re-launch a full Sourcefinder project to process our remaining (approx 1TB+) of data.

Thank you for your patience, I know this has been a long time coming.

I was in the process of expanding the main hard disk for the sourcefinder server, because the relatively small 50gb disk was no where near large enough to store all the required work units.
While I was attempting to expand the disk, I accidentally terminated the amazon server that ran Sourcefinder. This destroyed all data on the server and destroyed the server instance itself

:fiufiu:

Sourcefinder Beta - Attempt 2
Hi Everyone,

Earlier today we were having some issues with the hard disk size of the sourcefinder server. While I was attempting to increase the disk size, I accidentally terminated the amazon instance causing the server to be destroyed.

After a large amount of facepalming and re-installing, the server is back up with a larger hard disk at the following address: 54.196.169.236/duchamp/.

Unfortunately all of the forum posts have been deleted along with the server, and there may be a few latent setup issues that I haven't addressed quite yet.

Before accidentally destroying everything, I did copy off some of the bug reports that people had already made in to a Trello board. This board will store all of the current issues that I'm investigating, so you can all keep track of what I'm doing. trello.com/b/Y3XkcXMJ/sourcefinder-public. Once I've read a bug report on the forums, I'll update that board with the relevant details and get to work on fixing it.

I also plan on posting a weekly changelog of everything I've managed to fix so far.

I'm uploading a 30GB packet of work units to the server for everyone to work on. I'll get them sent the moment I can.

I'm truly sorry about all of this, and I hope everyone will still be happy enough to participate in sourcefinder.

Vediamo come procede.....

Secondo me è un clichè .
