alplix Browsing through this portal, I felt like I was back in 2007–2008. Those were the days when I first encountered computers, and everything looked just like this. I think it’s time for you to modernize. (16.10.26, 01:16)

(12.10.26, 22:39)
kidkidkid3 thanks in advance (12.10.26, 18:33)

Hello! I'd be happy to help you develop your BOINC project if you're interested.

We could publish it as a subproject of BitBOINC, or I could help build and deploy a dedicated BOINC platform for you in exchange for a subscription to a coding or AI development service such as Claude Code, Claude Science, Codex, GLM, or Mistral Code.

You don't necessarily need an academic collaborator to make your research outputs available. Depending on the nature of your work, you can publish datasets and computational results on Zenodo and submit your findings to suitable journals, including those that do not use traditional peer review. Of course, the appropriate publication route depends on your research goals and the standards of your field.

If you'd like to explore this opportunity, please write up your project idea in as much detail as possible, including your goals, scientific questions, proposed calculations, and anything else you have in mind. Send me your draft, and I'll assess whether the project is feasible, whether it can benefit from distributed computing, and which algorithms and computational approaches would be most suitable. I'll test possible approaches where appropriate and explain the options to you before we decide how to proceed.

Mathematical projects are often particularly well suited to distributed computing, and I can offer technical support across the entire process, from initial planning and algorithm selection to implementation, deployment, and maintenance.

Please take a look at BitBOINC: bitboinc.athena.org.tr/ and let me know what you think.

And yes, I keep a close eye on BOINC projects and platforms around the world, following community discussions, developments, ideas, and recommendations. I'm always interested in discovering promising projects and helping bring them to life!

Thank you for your interest. We would definitely be interested in working with you if you could take on the role of developer.

The challenge at the moment is finding someone at a university who can handle the data analysis, so that we can make sure we are taking the right approach.

In the meantime, could you let me know how much you would charge per month? I’m using the term “compensation” to refer to the cost of subscribing to one of the services you mentioned.

I’d also like to better understand whether the project could be deployed on a DigitalOcean VPS, which we would purchase and pay for ourselves and what hardware specifications would be required, along with the associated monthly costs.

I think I’ll put together a "business plan" and submit it to universities again, provided you’re on board as our developer and we can secure enough funding to cover both your fees and the hardware costs for at least one full year.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend renting a server in the long run. If you have a decent internet connection with good upload speeds at home or at your workplace, I'd suggest hosting the project yourself using a Debian server and Cloudflare Tunnel. You could also use Proxmox if you want to split things into separate virtual machines and potentially host multiple projects in the future.

You don't need an expensive server for this. A Mac mini, an ASUS NUC, an Intel NUC, or another mini PC could work just fine. The main things you'll need are enough RAM and storage.

The reason I recommend this approach is that BOINC relies heavily on its database, and resource requirements can increase as the project grows. My own project is still in its early stages, but the database alone is already using around 5 GB of RAM. With a VPS or cloud server, you'll eventually need to upgrade your plan as the database grows, which can get expensive. Having your own machine is usually a better long-term investment and gives you more control over the available resources.

If you tell me your budget and share a link to an e-commerce website commonly used in your country, such as Amazon, I can look through the available options and recommend a few machines that would suit your needs without spending more than necessary.

As for development, I'm happy to help you build the project without charging you for my time. We'll just need access to a capable AI coding agent while we're working on it. Once everything is up and running properly, we probably won't need the subscription anymore. We might only need it for a month or two, and a Claude Max subscription could be enough, depending on the amount of work involved.

There's another option worth considering before spending any money. Anthropic has a program that provides up to $50,000 in Claude API credits for scientific projects. I've already applied, and my application is currently under review. I expect to hear back within the next week or two. If it's approved, I may be able to use those credits to help build your project without needing to pay for a separate AI subscription.

If you're not in a hurry, we could wait for the outcome of my application and decide what makes the most sense for your budget. Either way, I'm happy to help you get the project off the ground.

Sure. We can wait. We still need to find a mathematician. I'll do my best to find one and I'll come back to you. Thank you!
