[03:12] <+MTughan_> It should be, although if it'll be as big as before, we don't know.
[03:13] <+MTughan_> One of the founders was going to move the servers back in June IIRC, and they were
confiscated as I know. It was just a couple weeks ago we got a database dump from them and got
the forums up (link in the title).
[03:16] <+Paolo-GHz> I understand, I see the link. You got also the dump of the BOINC database right?
[03:16] <+MTughan_> I don't. Bryan does. The two admins are Bryan and Lee, who go by the IRC nicks
bryanUC and B2_Riesel respectively.
[03:17] <+MTughan_> &seen bryanUC
[03:17] <+TSPer> MTughan_: bryanUC was last seen in #rieselsieve 3 weeks, 2 days, 3 hours, 51 minutes,
and 24 seconds ago: <bryanUC> punchcard is kind enough to host them
[03:17] <+MTughan_> &seen B2_Riesel
[03:17] <+TSPer> MTughan_: B2_Riesel was last seen in #rieselsieve 39 weeks, 4 days, 20 hours, 41 minutes,
and 9 seconds ago: <B2_Riesel> I was gone 4 days and nobody attacked me :)
[03:19] <+Paolo-GHz> Ok, than someone is working on rebuilding the project just now or not?
[03:20] <+MTughan_> Last I heard, they were. I haven'
[03:20] <+MTughan_> ..'t heard anything for at least 5 weeks though.
[03:20] <+MTughan_> You might possibly be better off posting on the forums.
[03:20] <+MTughan_> Hmm, if they were up...
[03:21] <+MTughan_> Oh, temporary Firefox error. :)
[03:23] <+Paolo-GHz> Ok, thanks for the information, so there is not a prevision about the end of resuming
work (if the project will be resumed!)
[03:24] <+MTughan_> Correct. The only part crunching right now is a small LLR server that was being
used before the BOINC version.
[03:28] <+Paolo-GHz> Ok, so the project can also be never resumed, right? What you think about this?
What we can expect?
[03:30] <+MTughan_> It's possible it'll be resumed, but I can't really speak for the admins. It was quite
unlikely up until the DB dump, as there was almost no communication from Lee, who had the servers.
[03:30] <+MTughan_> It seemed more likely with the database recovery, but Bryan has suggested that the
BOINC project took a lot of work to keep going. I imagine it also takes a bit of hardware for the
servers.
[03:32] <+Paolo-GHz> I understand, so no good news for now.
[03:33] <+MTughan_> Nope.
[03:35] <+Paolo-GHz> Another little question: was there an institute (like university or similar..)
behind riesel sieve project or not?
[03:35] <+MTughan_> Hmm... I don't remember.
[03:36] <+jasong_> That's a peculiar question, I never heard anything about an Institute
[03:36] <+jasong_> Unless you're talking about Hans Riesel, he might be a professor somewhere
[03:37] <+MTughan_> Wikipedia's page doesn't list anything.
[03:38] <+Paolo-GHz> Ok, infact I've searched the web but no mention about this. I want only to know if
this is a personal project or not, but at this point I think yes.....
[03:39] <+MTughan_> I wouldn't call it a personal project, as it does try to prove a mathematical
assumption, but I don't think it was sponsored from anywhere.
[03:39] <+MTughan_> Although, I guess the same thing could be said for many projects.
[03:45] <+Paolo-GHz> Shure, with 'personal' I mean that it was build, maintained and keep alive from one
or few person that like to solve a problem using BOINC and not supported from some research
institute
it.boincstats.com/st..._stats.php?pr=rieselsieve&co=&st=0&or=18
Ciao,
GHz
