Per via dei requisiti, basta aggiungere un po' di ram, adesso viene via con poco.
Ho visto su un sito in Germania (ogni tanto provo a configurare una workstation, così, per sognare) che per 128 Gb di ddr4 bastano circa 1.400,00€...

Nuove WU all'orizzonte?

We wish all the volunteers a Happy New Year and thank everyone for their contributions to CPDN to date.

CPDN looks forward to a busy 2026. We have recently been tidying our databases and systems. We will also be implementing badges soon, similar to other BOINC based projects.

There is more production work to come on the PAREST OpenIFS project (linux based). A small test batch went out at the end of last year. A larger production batch is now planned, though no release date as yet. There are also other projects being discussed. Plus there is continued development of our backend and workunit control software. It's likely we'll be sending out some test batches as beta applications in the near future as part of this development.

Thank you to all our volunteer number crunchers, our moderators and all our forum users for contributing to bring issues to our attention and solve issues for others.

se quelle "stabili" , oltre a durare una eternità (quando ancora arrivavano ...) il 90% andava in errore dopo giorni e giorni di elaborazione e quasi prossime al termine ...
Non so se posso nutrire molta fiducia in merito .
Capisco che i modelli computazionali climatici possoano essere piuttosto pesanti , ma se tenessero conto anche dei poveri crici ormai esausti nella loro lunga vita , probabilmente potrebbero attrarre anche molti più volontari .

Insomma , il problema di fondo è sempre quello ...
Sta diventando una cosa per "pochi" in un mondo già abbastanza ristretto..

Basterebbe che sviluppassero l'applicazione per GPU.
E' arcinoto che i calcoli climatici partono da sistemi molto discretizzati su cui si applicano le stesse formule e quindi trovano fortissimo aiuto da sistemi paralleli quali sono le GPU

CPDN will be releasing a new application shortly related to the Urban Heat Island. These tasks will be 4 to 6 CPUs (modifiable through app_config.xml) and an estimated 6GB of memory. It is based on the WRF forecast model (same one used by WCG ARP1 application) but run in a different configuration. Better than the Multi-threaded OIFS app in terms of memory requirements. However, nothing is free it seems. These are intended to run 16 days and upload an estimated 280MB of compressed data.

I have not heard of any GPU apps for this latest experiment. In addition, it seems they have decided to increase the model run to 90 model days. These will run close to an estimated 40 days on my hardware using 8 threads. It will start out at a maximum of 2 per host with the intent to increase it if no problems are encountered. I plan to try and keep boinc.italy in the number one spot.
