ARGOMENTO:

come suggeritomi da GHZ, posto qui i messaggi del mio boinc, lavoro su Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit e fino a tre giorni fa, non ho avuto nessun problema, poi Boinc ha iniziato ad inchiodarsi per parecchi istanti, ogni volta che cliccavo su di una tab o su file, modifica, opzioni ecc, ci impiegava un'eternità per passare da un punto all'altro, da ieri si è messo in sospeso, anche se si avvia per 10 minuti quando dice lui e si rimette in sospeso per un tempo x quando ridice lui!

ho un pentium 4, con 2 gb di ram e 250 gb di hd, ati radeon x600 ed il portatile è un zd8000 della hp!

dal log si vede chiaramente che il problema dipende dalle preferenze.

Da BAM imposta questa preferenza a zero se vuoi che il pc continui a scaccolare quando non è utilizzato:

Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last (0 = disabled)

E questa opzione su SI se vuoi che il pc elabori anche quando lo stai utilizzando:

Lavora anche quando il computer viene utilizzato?

Salvate le impostazioni fai un update di BAM.

Dal log risulta che hai anche impostato delle preferenze locali, quindi controlla da Avanzate->Preferenze che l'opzione "Anche quando il computer è in uso".

Se ancora non funziona, apri manualmente il file global_prefs_override.xml e sostituisci le rispettive voci con questi valori:

Riavvia BOINC e vedi se funziona.

Controlla di aver messo il file del certificato nella cartella dei dati di BOINC e non del programma. La trovi all'inizio del log dei messaggi di BOINC quando viene avviato, è chiamata Data directory (nel tuo caso è /var/lib/boinc-client).
Dopo riavvia BOINC e vedi se funziona!

salve ragazzi visto che se ne parla gia in questo post evito di aprirne un altro, da quando ho installato l'ultima versione di boinc questo si comporta in modo strano. Ad esempio io ho sempre elaborato 2 wu per volta mentre oggi magicamente me ne sono ritrovato 3 .
Inoltre sempre da oggi boinc si è sospeso non volendone più sapere di ripartire. Ho pure controllato le impostazioni ma sembra tutto apposto adesso vi metto i messaggi cosi che forse da gente più eserta potreste capirne più di me. Premett che io non utilizzo ubuntu ma windows vista.

Con la nuova release 6.10.36 quei simpaticoni hanno aggiunto un'opzione che se lasciata all'impostazione di default mette tutto in suspend se altri processi fuori da BOINC usano la CPU sopra il 25%.
Da preferenze locali devi metterla a 0 se vuoi tornare alla situazione precedente l'upgrade alla 36.
Secondo me e' una str...ata incredibile che portera' la potenza di elaborazione a un calo drastico delle prestazioni globali di BOINC, visto che molti utenti non controllano queste cose e probabilmente non se ne accorgeranno neppure.

Nel tuo caso, resta da controllare cosa si e' "permesso" di usare la CPU oltre il 25%

A caricare ulteriormente il mio disappunto per questa soluzione potrei aggiungere che:

1) il fatto di lanciare a prorita' low i processi, bastava ed avanzava a rendere compatibile la presenza di BOINC con altri processi utente particolarmente gravosi per la CPU

2) il continuo suspend / resume causato da questa soglia puo' essere invece causa di reale rallentamento del PC nel suo utilizzo interattivo (a zero CPU), infatti se non e' impostato il flag "leave in memory" al resume il restart dei criceti fa lavorare di piu' il disco

3) nel caso invece sia impostato il "leave app. in memory while suspended", liberare la CPU senza liberare la RAM non porta sempre ad un reale incremento delle prestazioni del PC

io utilizzo molto spesso il pc per giocare e probabilmente sara stato questo a mandare la cpu oltre la soglia del 25% adesso ho messo 0 come valore spero di aver risolto cosi, cmq sotto il mio account lavorano molti pc appartenenti alla cerchia di miei amici che hanno aderito (ma che non ne capisco molto e quindi hanno lasciato tutto in mano a me) credo che su di loro non effettuero gli aggiornamenti ma attenderò la successiva verione

porca trota ce l'avevo anche io nella 6.10.34 installata qualche giorno fa su un i7... in fatti non capivo perché a volte si impallava

Non leggo i loro forum, però con senno di poi sembra cmq una buona intenzione, cercare di rendere ancora meno invasiva la piattaforma per cercare di catturare un maggior numero di niubbi, ma si sà che alle buone intenzioni poi non sempre corrispondono dei buoni risultati.
Anche se questi saranno estremamente difficili da misurare, prevedo un bilancio negativo, perchè di solito 10 new-entry che iniziano ora ad elaborare tipicamente part-time e con 1 PC non valgono un "addicted" che lavora 24/7 con enne PC che non si accorge subito dei suspend.

Si potrebbe provare a convincerli a modificare almeno il default a zero, nella prossima versione o ancora meglio a modificare quella attuale

BTW questo meccanismo potrebbe rivelarsi più nefasto di quello che si pensa, mettiamo un gioco su un quad core che ad intervalli arriva a sfruttare tutto in core quindi a raggiungere il 25% nei momenti in cui va al massimo: BOINC si stoppa => ravanamento dell'HD per rimuovere lo swap allocato dai client, il gioco rallenta un pelo il consumo di CPU, BOINC riavvia i client => riallocazione di RAM e swap ... e così via con frequenza a piacere, secondo voi il gioco inizierà a scattare più in corrispondenza di questi eventi o per un elaborazione continua a bassa priorità ? E i client BOINC fermati e riavviati in continuazione quanti checkpoint bruceranno con riduzione nell'efficienza del calcolo ?

Aggiungiamo che se il gioco comincia a scattare la gente disinstalla BOINC?

Ma poi, renderla meno invasiva a che scopo? Io non mi sono mai accorto di alcun rallentamento... tranne quando gioco, ma lì si potrebbe piuttosto girare l'impostazione sulla GPU, ossia che quando la GPU è usata per oltre il X% allora l'elaborazione si ferma sia sulla GPU che sulla CPU.

Invece quella della percentuale era una cosa che stava cominciando a mancarmi come l'aria su una macchina. Ieri, dopo un upgrade hardware, ho dovuto installare l'ultima versione di boinc (sennò non mi usava il core in più) e ho avuto questa gradita sorpresa. Vedremo se funziona bene o meno...

Questa è la cosa che mi preoccupa di più, magari una wu invece di impiegarci 10 ore a scaccolare ce ne impiega 15 perchè viene continuamente stoppata prima di arrivare ai checkpint!

Urge segnalare la cosa nel portale e convincerli a mettere di default 0!!
